2019 was a busy and successful running season for us but also brought us some red signals where we couldn’t proceed any further or operate which most other railways (Heritage and Main Line) through the country also experienced.
In October/November we experienced some heavy rain which caused our infrastructure to flood. Our infrastructure manager put a plan into place to ensure that we could run again as quickly and safely as possible, once the weather improved and appropriate action was taken our first train was our Santa Special which ran successfully.
After our Santa Specials from January – February 2020 we are carrying out planned maintenance on our locomotives and rolling stock and infrastructure to ensure the site is ready for our visitors and passengers on Sunday 1st March 2020 when we will run our first Sunday passenger service of the 2020 running season. Followed by more passenger trains, footplate experiences, wedding charters and special events later in the year.
A variety of new events will come to Elsecar Heritage Railway this year as well as Wedding Ceremony’s In our Booking Office, Locomotive Shed and Platform. Keep an eye out on our new website and Facebook page for more information and updates on our operating time table and events.
